This is my weekly progress for my documentary project.
Week 2
This week, we got assigned our team. our teacher Mr Nick wanted us to work with new people so he randomised the group and we cant choose who we want to work with. I got put in a group with my friends Gusde, Maha, and Kenzo. I've never worked with them so i'm pretty scared but i know they all are good with media so i think our group will do good. We were also told that we’d be making the first 3–5 minutes of a crime documentary. I'm really excited because i love watching crime documentarues. We also watched two documentaries in class, which helped with our research and gave us some ideas.
Week 3
By week 3, we had decided on the crime we wanted to focus on and added it to our statement of intent. Our documentary will be about an illegal cult that are environmentalists with a shady background of kidnapping and killing people. the main character is a journalist who goes undercover but later gets caught and kidnapped.
Week 4
This week, I started writing the screenplay for our documentary with my teammate Gusde. My team and I also finalized the idea, so now we have a clear vision of the shots and sequences. Kenzo, one of my teammates, started working on the storyboard for the opening scenes. We also planned the location scout & risk assessment for filming the documentary and conducting the interviews.
Week 5
During week 5, we continued developing the screenplay and storyboard, and we created a filming schedule. I think we’ll start shooting soon, especially once the screenplay is finished. We also need to find actors, props, and costumes (like cloaks and masks) which i am in charge of and figure out lighting. though we’re leaning toward using candles. Additionally, we started assigning filming roles to everyone in the group.
Week 6
This week, we began planning our critical reflections (CRs). Honestly, I am so happy we dont have to make 4 presentations anymore because that took a lot of time and effort. now, we only have to make an essay which is boring but easier to do and requires less effort. We also started filming the interview scenes. there were a lot of retakes and gusde was the one who filmed with his outside school friends from dyatmika school.
Week 7
i was absent this week due to being hospitalised and family issues but gusde filmed the interview scenes this week, but the videos turned out grainy and lacked detail, so he needst to reshoot or find another solution. We also worked on our classwork post and updated the filming schedule, planning to shoot the cult scenes on Thursday and Friday. Unfortunately, the shoot got canceled because i was absent and couldnt get the costumes on such short notice.
Week 8
This week was all about finishing the project. our teacher gave us a one day extension which im super grateful about and the rest of the class was too because my team was a little behind since alot of us were absent and stuff. i took my time to work on my blog and created the final thumbnail. We shot footage late into the week, so we spent most of this time editing and recording extra scenes, like the drone shots and the cult house. Overall, it was a stressful week trying to fit everything into a short timeframe and making my blog look neat and perfect. i also spent most my time doing my critical reflection. everyone was doing their parts up until the end we stayed up all night to complete everything.
