Here's our research on horror props that we might take as inspiration
Evil Dead Rise, 2023
(a cursed book prop)
What I like about this prop?
I like this prop because it is easy to fine in stores or online. If I cant find it, I can make it myself without needing special skills or material. It's also great because I can customise it to fit my needs.
What I don't like about this prop?
The main issue is that it might be expensive to buy. If I decide to make it myself, it could take a lot of time and effort to gather materials and put it together. If something goes wrong, it could waste time and money.
Ouija, 2014
(a horror board game prop)
What I like about this prop?
This prop is unique and can make the audience feel more connected to the story. Using familiar children's board games could surprise the audience and make the storyline more interesting. It even helps gives a subverted convention to our reading
What I don't like about this prop?
The problem is that these games might be expensive to buy, and creating our own could be hard. Making a custom game would take a lot of time to plan and design.
Annabelle, 2014
(a haunted doll prop)
What I like about this prop?
Most dolls have a creepy vibe, which makes them perfect for our movie. It wouldn't take much effort to make the doll work with the theme, and it should be easy to find one that fits the look we want.
What I don't like about this prop?
As teenagers, we don't have dolls lying around anymore. Finding the perfect dill might be hard, and buying one could be expensive because creepy-looking dolls aren't very common now.
Our Final Decision:
Book picture before and after
We decided to choose the book prop because we've discovered that our team member (Maisie) has an old witch craft book that we could use as a prop. Because the book is a very children's appropriate book, we decided to add tape and things to cover up the "Disney" and any un-scary bits seen from the book.
Behind-the-Scenes
Here are behind the scene pictures of our prop development.
1. This was a text message that I got from my team member (Maisie) telling me that she had found her book.
2. Here is pictures of us taping down the un-scary bits and colouring the tape over using makeup to give it a rusty, old effect.
Reflection: This was a task was created by kristine and it wasnt mandatory but i felt that i should put it here because i kind of gave the idea of how this blogpost started.
